A class is more than a slot in a timetable.
It might be somebody teaching yoga in the village hall, a potter opening their studio twice a week, a dance teacher building a school from scratch, or a music teacher making a living one pupil at a time.
These are small pieces of the economy and culture of a place. They create work, skills, friendships, reasons to leave the house and reasons for a town to feel like itself.
Small studios and independent teachers are part of the everyday infrastructure of a place: somewhere to move, meet people and keep doing something for yourself.
The problem is that independent providers rarely have the advertising budgets, search authority or platform reach of the organisations competing for the same attention.
Understead is trying to change the balance by making the independent people already doing the work easier to find.
Find them here. Go directly to them. Help keep more of the life of your place rooted there.
Tai chi and qigong are taught in different styles and formats. Understead only shows a style or suitability label where the teacher or class information supports it.
Beginner classes commonly introduce movements progressively, and most require little specialist equipment. Check the teacher's own description for style, pace and level.
Prices vary by provider, location, class type and whether you pay per session or book a block. Where a provider publishes current prices, Understead shows them on its listing.
Where possible, Understead shows the provider's own current price rather than sending you through a marketplace that obscures who is actually providing the class.
Tai chi commonly uses flowing movement sequences, while qigong often uses repeated movements, posture and breathing practices. Yoga and meditation offer other local routes into movement and contemplative practice.
Understead is built around the places people live, so these listings focus on providers you can attend locally. Some local teachers also offer online sessions; where they do, you'll find that on their listing.
If you're one of the independent people doing this locally, Understead is meant to include you.
Add your business or claim the page we've already started. Show people nearby what you teach, where you run it, when it happens and how to reach you.
We want residents to find you because you're relevant to their place, not because you can afford to outspend somebody else.
Your own website, socials, contact details and booking routes stay visible.

Tai chi commonly works through flowing movement sequences, while qigong often uses repeated movements, posture and breathing practices. Many teachers teach both: their own class descriptions say which.
Generally yes, beginner classes introduce movements progressively and need little specialist equipment. Look for teachers who explicitly advertise beginner sessions.
Some teachers explicitly run sessions for older adults or gentler classes. Understead only shows that label where the teacher advertises it, never by assumption.
Some classes charge per session, some run as courses or blocks, and some community sessions are free or by donation. Where a teacher publishes prices, they show on the listing.
There is probably more being taught around you than you realise.
Enter your town or postcode, choose how far you'd like to look, and find the independent people doing it nearby.
Know your place. Take part in it. Support the people who make it what it is.
