A class is more than a slot in a timetable.
It might be somebody teaching yoga in the village hall, a potter opening their studio twice a week, a dance teacher building a school from scratch, or a music teacher making a living one pupil at a time.
These are small pieces of the economy and culture of a place. They create work, skills, friendships, reasons to leave the house and reasons for a town to feel like itself.
Small studios and independent teachers are part of the everyday infrastructure of a place: somewhere to move, meet people and keep doing something for yourself.
The problem is that independent providers rarely have the advertising budgets, search authority or platform reach of the organisations competing for the same attention.
Understead is trying to change the balance by making the independent people already doing the work easier to find.
Find them here. Go directly to them. Help keep more of the life of your place rooted there.
Yoga covers a wide range of practices. Narrow the local teachers and studios to the kind of class you actually want.

Find independent teachers offering pregnancy or maternity yoga, with local venues, schedules and current prices where published.
You don't need to be flexible or experienced to start. Many local teachers offer beginner, gentle or mixed-ability sessions and explain what you need before you arrive.
Prices vary by provider, location, class type and whether you pay per session or book a block. Where a provider publishes current prices, Understead shows them on its listing.
Where possible, Understead shows the provider's own current price rather than sending you through a marketplace that obscures who is actually providing the class.
Both can build strength, control and mobility, but they are different practices. Yoga spans a broad family of movement, breathing and contemplative practices, while Pilates tends to focus more directly on controlled movement, stability and core strength.

Understead is built around the places people live, so these listings focus on providers you can attend locally. Some local teachers also offer online sessions; where they do, you'll find that on their listing.
If you're one of the independent people doing this locally, Understead is meant to include you.
Add your business or claim the page we've already started. Show people nearby what you teach, where you run it, when it happens and how to reach you.
We want residents to find you because you're relevant to their place, not because you can afford to outspend somebody else.
Your own website, socials, contact details and booking routes stay visible.

Hatha, gentle and mixed-ability classes are common starting points, and many teachers run sessions aimed specifically at beginners. Check the class description: teachers who welcome beginners usually say so.
Prices vary by teacher, venue and whether you pay per class or book a block. Where a provider publishes current prices, Understead shows them on the listing.
Some local teachers advertise pregnancy, maternity or chair yoga specifically. Use the search above and look for the styles a teacher explicitly lists: Understead only labels a style where the provider advertises it.
It depends on the class: many studios provide mats and props, while classes in halls often ask you to bring your own. The provider's own listing or website will say what you need.
There is probably more being taught around you than you realise.
Enter your town or postcode, choose how far you'd like to look, and find the independent people doing it nearby.
Know your place. Take part in it. Support the people who make it what it is.
