New age kurling is a cross between curling as played on ice and bowls, with no ice and no brushes. Players deliver stones fitted with ball bearings from one end of the court towards a target at the other, either by hand or using a pusher, which lets a wheelchair user or anyone who finds bending tricky take part, and those closest to the centre score. The group meets weekly on a Tuesday from 11am until noon in the upstairs room at St John's Church in Filey, and a second group meets there from noon until 1pm, immediately after the first. Kurling did not continue at Hunmanby because of insufficient numbers.
- Who it is for There are one or two vacancies in each of the two groups.
- Cost, as stated 25 Aug 2026 £3, which helps fund the replacement of the ball bearings in the older kurling stones.
Part of Filey & District u3a. Joining is through membership.
