Hawkwell Village u3a runs 34 groups around Hawkwell Village.
Hawkwell Village u3a is a registered charity in Hawkwell, Essex, about six miles from Southend, drawing on the knowledge, experience and skills of its members to run a range of interest groups and social events for people no longer in full time employment. Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, except December, at Hawkwell Village Hall on Main Road, from 2.30pm until 4.30pm, and usually include a guest speaker. A book swap runs at the meetings, where members bring along unwanted novels and exchange them for something new. The branch was established in January 2014 and has around 200 full members and up to 150 affiliate members.
- Who it is for There are currently no vacancies in full membership, though applications for affiliate membership are welcome. Affiliate members enjoy the benefits of full membership but cannot attend the AGM, join the committee or attend monthly meetings.
- Cost, as stated 25 Aug 2026 Annual full membership £15, affiliate membership £12, both including a fee payable to the Third Age Trust. Members of another u3a pay a reduced fee on proof of membership, and fees are calculated pro rata for anyone joining part way through the year.

A local paper for your patch, delivered by email. Who's just started up, what's in season, when the markets are on, what's on this month, and the odd story about how a place like yours keeps its money close to home.
Good news, mostly. There's enough of the other kind about.
