Art Interpretation

A group for people with a passion for art who want to deepen their knowledge and understanding of it, from earlier ages up to the present. It runs on shared learning principles, with each member contributing to the exploration of artists and their contexts. The group agrees a topic area, for example the art of Russia, and shares the artists among members, and at each meeting a few people talk about their choice for about fifteen minutes, showing examples, after which the group discusses what it has seen. There are also sessions in which members present a personal favourite work or artist. The group invites guest speakers, usually artists working in Cumbria, and occasionally travels to galleries and exhibitions. It meets in Carlisle. Numbers continue to grow, and the group notes that if that continues it may have to limit new joiners.
